jotter.

privacy policy.

Effective 1 October 2026 · applies to the jotter app for iPhone and iPad, its widgets, and this website

in short

  • We don't collect, see, sell or share what you write. Your pages live on your device and, if you turn on sync, in your own iCloud.
  • There is no account, no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking.
  • The only data that leaves your device for us to process is what's needed to know whether you've bought jotter pro, handled by Apple and our purchase provider, RevenueCat.
  • Deleting the app deletes your notebook from your device. You're always in control.

1. who we are

jotter is made by Shrenik Choudhary, an independent developer (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for the app and for this policy. You can reach us at hello@jotter.app.

2. your pages

Everything you write in jotter (pages, boxes, lists, the date and order of pages, your settings and your name on the cover) is stored on your device, inside the app's private storage and a shared container used only by jotter's own widgets. We have no server that receives your pages, and we cannot read them.

Some features use parts of iOS that also stay on your device:

3. iCloud sync (optional, jotter pro)

If you turn on iCloud sync, your pages are stored in the private database of your own iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. That data belongs to your Apple Account: only your devices signed in to it can read it, and we cannot access it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is described in the Apple Privacy Policy. Turning sync off stops further syncing; you can delete jotter's iCloud data in iPhone Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage → jotter.

4. permissions

jotter asks for a permission only when you reach for the feature that needs it, and works without any of them.

PermissionWhyWhat we receive
NotificationsTo remind you of a box at the date and time you give it, and let you tick it from the notification.Nothing. Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device by iOS; no server is involved and nothing is sent to us or anyone else.
Face IDTo lock the notebook.Nothing. iOS checks your face and tells jotter only “yes” or “no”. We never get biometric data.
Photos (add only)To save a picture of a page you share.Nothing. jotter can add pictures but cannot see your library.

You can change these at any time in iPhone Settings → jotter.

5. purchases

jotter pro is sold through the App Store. Apple handles payment; we never see your name, email, card or Apple Account details.

To know whether you have pro, and to restore it on a new device, jotter uses RevenueCat, a subscription service acting on our behalf. RevenueCat receives a random identifier made by the app (not linked to your name or email), your App Store purchase receipt and history, the products you bought, and basic technical information such as app version, device model, operating system, country/storefront and IP address, which is used to answer the request and is not used by us to identify you. This data is used only to provide and support your purchase, not for advertising or tracking. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.

6. what we don't do

7. retention and deletion

Because there is no account, there is no account to delete: removing the app and its iCloud data removes your notebook entirely.

8. your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, the CCPA/CPRA in California, or India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to withdraw consent. Since your pages never reach us, you already hold them; for anything we or RevenueCat process, email hello@jotter.app and we'll respond within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

Where the GDPR applies, we process purchase data because it is necessary to perform our contract with you (providing jotter pro), and support emails on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering you. Data handled by RevenueCat may be processed in the United States under appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

9. children

jotter is a general-audience notebook and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. security

Your pages are protected by iOS's data protection and, if you choose, the Face ID lock. iCloud data is protected by Apple, and with Advanced Data Protection turned on it is end-to-end encrypted. No method of storage is perfectly secure, but keeping your writing off our servers is the strongest protection we can offer.

11. this website

This site uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. Its host may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security, and fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address to deliver them.

12. changes and contact

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and, for material changes, tell you in the app before they take effect. Questions about privacy: hello@jotter.app.
